The intoxicating mix of experiences made her want to learn more about the country, so she applied for a year long sabbatical from her college and moved to China with her husband. Helen realized that she had a lot to offer, having over 20 years experience in education. She saw that she could help schools and children who had limited resources and opportunities, so she created a platform to support and provide opportunities for disadvantaged children, and this is how MCF was founded. The Foundation provided primarily extracurricular activities, health, and eye checkups and other activities such as educational trips. Her vision for MCF was twofold: not only were these children benefiting, but also people of all ages and walks of life who have come together to be part of this vision to &#8220;make a difference&#8221; also benefited by the experience, insight and self-satisfaction received from their efforts and involvement.<\/p>\n<p>Email: <a href=\"mailto:helen@mcfchina.org\">helen@mcfchina.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marcus Vanderjack<\/strong>, <em>Education&nbsp;Programs Manager&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Marcus Vanderjack is a licensed teacher from the United States. Marcus began his career abroad, teaching in Taiwan, where he learned how to adapt western curriculum methods to an eastern classroom context. Currently, Marcus works for Capital Normal University High School in Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>Marcus has been a member of MCF\u2019s team for two years. Growing up in Eastern Canada, he has been fortunate enough to have been given the proper tools and resources for a healthy life and knows how pivotal they are to a child\u2019s development. He has a strong belief that every child should have the necessary resources they need to meet their goals and aims to make that a reality, one step at a time. He has been working professionally with civil society organisations since 2003. He began as social worker assisting homeless families in Slovakia and became a manager and a coordinator of the development of new social services for people affected by homelessness. In 2009, he was appointed to the Board of the Young European Jesuit in Formation, in Brussels, and coordinated international programs in Italy and Spain. From 2011, Erik worked directly with persons affected by homelessness in Dublin, Ireland, and amongst other things was also responsible for managing an emergency accommodation facility in Dublin. After his volunteer experience as a one-time booth seller (then known as \u201cMr. Smiley\u201d) at MCF\u2019s Christmas Bazaar in December 2016, Andy has continued dedicating his time to the organization by producing write-ups and blogs, interviewing volunteers, and promoting MCF activities to an international audience in Beijing during his work in the Beijing kids magazine from 2016 to 2019. Currently, Andy writes news, lifestyle, and general interest articles on his website.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brett Lowther,<\/strong> <em>Session Coordinator, Member of the MCF Quality and Development Board<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Brett is an experienced ESL teacher who joined MCF as a volunteer in Beijing in October 2018. He currently teaches English at a high school in Beijing. He re- located to China from Ibiza, Spain in September 2018, where he was teaching English to business professionals, teenagers and children across all levels. He worked as a volunteer from 2014 &#8211; 2017 to help people affected by homelessness in Ibiza for local charity Caritas and also as a support worker for the Red Cross on the island. Brett comes from a communications background and before teaching was a PR Professional in London, working with major global organisations. He loves travelling, art, music and cooking and is very much looking forward to supporting the development of MCF in China.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Connor Schmidt<\/strong>, <em>Early Years Educator &amp;&nbsp;Member of the MCF Quality and Development Board<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Connor is a trained IB early years educator with a background in play and inquiry- based education. He has experience working and volunteering with children of all ages and is passionate about providing youth with meaningful and engaging learning experiences. He enjoys making balloon animals, climbing trees, and going on treasure hunts! Originally from Texas, Connor began his career teaching in Hong Kong at international schools before moving to Beijing. He joined MCF in April 2019 and was excited to see the depth of programs being delivered. Connor is looking forward to strengthening MCF\u2019s stellar educational programs using his knowledge of curriculum, teaching models, and child development.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jessica Mariathas<\/strong>, <em>Session Coordinator,&nbsp;Member of the MCF Quality and Development Board<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jessica is a young professional exploring the education sector in Beijing. She is a native New Yorker who loves trying new food, traveling to new places and doing outdoor activities. Jessica has experience volunteering and working with individuals with special needs in the mental health field for two years. She loved the teaching element of her job and wanted to explore it further by teaching ESL to primary school children in Beijing. After moving to Beijing a few months ago, she joined MCF in April, 2019. Jessica really enjoys the work that MCF does and hopes to contribute her ideas and time to this organization. She is excited to be a part of the growth and development of the MCF education program.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vittoria Bertola-Birtantie<\/strong>, <em>Friday session Teacher, Members of the MCF Quality and Development Board<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Over the past 25 years, Vittoria has lived in 8 different countries representing varied socio-economic environments stretching across Africa, Asia and Europe. In this period, she has been a teacher and a volunteer associated with International Schools and Charity Organisations. Vittoria joined the MCF in 2015 as a volunteer to teach English to migrant children. Her main goal is to leverage her experience to the benefit of the MCF and contribute to its mission and objectives. She is passionate about working for and with children in need with the hope of making a positive impact on their lives. Being a team player, Vittoria believes that through a strong collective with diverse experiences we will be successful with our Vision.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carmen Ng<\/strong>, <em>Friday session Teacher &amp; Session Coordinator&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I was born in Hong Kong and moved to Toronto, Canada with my family at a young age. I worked in the finance and accounting industry in Hong Kong for 8 years before moving to Beijing with my husband and two active boys. I enjoy traveling, working out, and discovering new restaurants around town.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>I currently volunteer with MCF on Mondays as English teacher for Fan Fan, and on Fridays as session coordinator and English teacher at the MCF South Infant school.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Martina Zhang, <\/strong><em>Student, Beijing<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Martina is a grade 9 IB student in Beijing World Youth Academy (BWYA). She is a local Beijinger. She joined MCF as a volunteer 3 years ago. Through the 3 years volunteering work, she collected experiences, learnt, and improved her teaching skills. She enjoyed the process a lot since she can communicate with other teachers to share ideas and opinions. As one of the younger volunteers, she can think creatively regarding MCF lessons. She not only views as a teacher but also as a student towards these lessons. She loves to create art works, to explore different types of food around the world, to listen to music, to read novels, to swim, and to travel. She is excited to be a member of this program and looks forward to sharing ideas with others in this team to provide better help to the migrant children community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rosanna Ho<\/strong>, <em>Graphic Design&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Rosanna has been drawing since she was 5 and volunteering since she was 13. Working with MCF has been the perfect blend of her passions! Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Rosanna has grown up exposed to various cultures and this has fostered her love of exploring and traveling. Her work has allowed her to travel to almost every province in China and also many countries in southeast Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Diana has been volunteering with MCF for three years as an English teacher. He has been awarded both the \u2018Friendship Prize\u2019 by the State Council of the PRC in 2001 and an \u2018International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of the PRC\u2019 in 2005. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and it is in cooperation with the RSC that David gives his time, as not only a Director of MCF but a volunteer too, by running MCF&#8217;s Fun With Science Program.<\/p>\n<h5>Tony Boyle<\/h5>\n<p>Tony Boyle has spent the last 42 years in the offshore gas and oil exploration business culminating in his present position of Offshore Installation Manager. Tony travels constantly due to work but also for pleasure. At present he is based in Qatar in the Middle East meaning he commutes between there and China where his family is based.<\/p>\n<h5>Dr. Jing Jin<\/h5>\n<p>Dr. Jing Jin serves as Executive Director, Head of Institutional Financing of Fixed Income J.P.Morgan in Asia. Before joining JPMorgan, Dr. Jin has both worked in banking and economics in both China and America as well as studying in both countries. I became a part of MCF because of my belief that all children deserve an education and a chance to be inspired. I&#8217;m highly motivated and driven toward the shared goal of other volunteers at MCF I was drawn to the amazing and highly respected work done by MCF. I am a PE teacher here in Beijing and back in England, I was very involved with a charity for disabled children. Evans, CSci CChem FRSC<\/h5>\n<p>After several visits to Chinese university chemistry departments in the early 1990s, David was convinced of China\u2019s potential for development in this area and he moved to Beijing University of Chemical Technology in 1996, where he is currently a member of the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Resource Engineering. He has been awarded both the \u2018Friendship Prize\u2019 by the State Council of the PRC in 2001 and an \u2018International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Award of the PRC\u2019 in 2005. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and it is in cooperation with the RSC that David gives his time, as not only a Director of MCF but a volunteer too, by running MCF&#8217;s Fun With Science Program.<\/p>\n<h5>Tony Boyle<\/h5>\n<p>Tony Boyle has spent the last 42 years in the offshore gas and oil exploration business culminating in his present position of Offshore Installation Manager. Tony travels constantly due to work but also for pleasure. At present he is based in Qatar in the Middle East meaning he commutes between there and China where his family is based.<\/p>\n<h5>Dr. Jing Jin<\/h5>\n<p>Dr. Jing Jin serves as Executive Director, Head of Institutional Financing of Fixed Income J.P.Morgan in Asia. Before joining JPMorgan, Dr. Jin has both worked in banking and economics in both China and America as well as studying in both countries.
